What we collect
From your university account: your name, university email, photo, student number (if it's in the email), major, courses and sections. From you: posts, comments, stories, messages and photos you send, and your settings. Your location only if you turn on nearby friends or "Leave now", and we store the building, not exact coordinates.
Why we use it
To connect you to your university, organize your schedule and reminders, show your course and major communities, and protect users from abuse and fraud.
Who sees what
You control who sees your profile, posts and other accounts in Privacy settings. Posts in university sections are visible to students of your university.
UniMate admin access to chats and content
UniMate admins can view and edit any content on the platform, and can open any private or group chat at any time when a report, complaint or dispute comes in, or for safety and to prevent fraud and abuse. Every time a chat is opened, who opened it, when and why is logged. Disappearing messages are removed from devices according to your setting, and permanently deleted from our servers 30 days after they disappear, unless there's an open report on them.
Screenshots
If you turn on screenshot blocking, we try to block it on the other person's device and tell you if someone tries. No system can stop someone filming the screen with another device, so keep that in mind.
Ads
In-app ads are from shops around the university and are labeled "Sponsored". We don't sell your data to anyone, and advertisers only see view and tap counts. If you turn on “Offers by email”, we send deals to your university email, with an unsubscribe link in every email.
Where your data is stored
On Supabase servers and the storage services we use, encrypted in transit.
Your rights
You can edit your data in Settings, request a copy from "Help & support", and delete your account right away from "Delete account" in Settings.
